The seven-day deadline
The quiz must be passed within seven days after the practical assessment. The official handbook gives the example: a practical on 1 July means the quiz must be passed by 8 July.
Miss that and the practical result is forfeited, even if your child passed every skill in the pool. That is the single most avoidable way to lose a SwimSafer stage.
If you need more time, apply for the one-time extension on CAMS. It adds one month, costs a $5 administrative fee, and must be applied for before the seven days run out. Only one extension is allowed.
What the theory test covers
The theory quiz is how the knowledge part of each stage is checked. The national syllabus groups that knowledge into five areas, taught alongside the pool skills. Most topics repeat at every stage, so a child meets the same ideas again as they move up. Two things change: survival techniques join from Stage 2, and from Bronze the rescue topic becomes the full four-step rescue process.
