Bishan Swimming Complex has been open since 1 December 1991, part of the Bishan Sports and Recreation Centre that serves Bishan New Town.
The stadium, sports hall and indoor courts share the same grounds, and Bishan MRT is a short walk away, which makes it one of the easier central pools for families to reach.
Lessons in the teaching pool
SwimSafer classes here run in the teaching pool, which is shallower than the 50-metre competition pool beside it.
Shallow water is where the early stages start: getting in safely, floating, and moving through the water. Expect company: lap swimmers and training squads keep the complex busy, especially at weekends.
Safety, and the park next door
A CVDDS drowning prevention system is installed at the pool, which is reassuring for parents of beginners. Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park is right next door, so a weekend lesson can easily become a morning out.

Bishan Swimming Complex is not a CAMS assessment centre. SwimSafer classes run here, but the formal in-pool test for certification takes place at your nearest centralised centre.

When is Bishan Swimming Complex open?
Every day from 8:00 AM to 9:30 PM, apart from Thursdays, when it closes for maintenance. A Thursday that falls on a public holiday is a normal opening day, 8:00 AM to 9:30 PM. Lap swimmers also get the competition pool from 6:30 AM to 8:00 AM on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. ActiveSG lists any extra closures on its Facilities Closure page.
Where do children learning at Bishan take the SwimSafer test?
Bishan is not a CAMS assessment centre. Classes run here, and the in-pool test is held at Yio Chu Kang Swimming Complex, the nearest of the five CAMS centres, on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The coach normally books the session, and families can change it on the CAMS Platform.
What does a swim at Bishan Swimming Complex cost?
Bishan Swimming Complex charges the standard ActiveSG rates. For Singapore Citizens and PRs, adults pay $1.00 on weekdays and $1.30 on weekends and public holidays, while children under 12 and seniors aged 55 and above pay $0.50 and $0.60. The non-resident rate is $1.30 on weekdays and $1.70 on weekends and public holidays. Do I have to book before swimming at Bishan?
There is no booking. Walk in any time the complex is open and scan in with the ActiveSG app or Singpass. A child without a phone can be let in on a parent's or guardian's account.
What should we bring to Bishan Swimming Complex?
Proper swimwear (bermudas and cotton clothing are not allowed), a towel and a padlock for the lockers. A swim cap is recommended at most ActiveSG pools but not compulsory. Everyone showers before getting in.
