Unassisted entries, sculling, feet-first surface dives and safety skills. The stage-end target is 25 metres of continuous swimming.
Stage 2 develops fundamental water skills. Students learn sculling, the PFD (personal flotation device), and basic survival techniques.

Swim with PFD after clothed entry
Clothing for assessment. Assessed in swimwear, shorts and t-shirt. Students swim 15 metres clothed to experience how garments impede movement and flotation.
On assessment day. A orange swimming cap is issued to all Stage 2 participants when they arrive at the Centralised Assessment Centre.
